Today, we talked about personal knowledge, shared knowledge and how time and culture relate. It was an interesting lesson where I was able to provide my own thoughts and opinions, as well as get a chance to listen to my peers to see what they think. Since this is my first TOK lesson, I feel as though this will be interesting.
'Personal Knowledge' and 'Shared Knowledge' are different things that can be mixed in. For example, personal knowledge would be history of mental illness, physical illness, ethnicity, faith, etc, etc. Things that are personal to you. Shared knowledge, on the other hand is something more like laws, politics, news outlets and common sense and information. They can blend in ways such as religious groups; your faith, although shared, can be personal information to you. Families tend not to be public about their history and lies solely within that unit or down the line.
Time and culture are the other things we talked about this lesson. Time, in human culture, is an importance that must be measured in order to to see when and how we can do things-- How fast certain people walk may relate to their height or habits, how time can be valued over people in some cases in order to complete things or save a life or how time is an abstract concept we developed in order to organize our days.
