How do the human sciences differ from the natural sciences?
Natural sciences link to the real, physical world. There are branches like chemistry, ecology, physics and many more within these branches. That is the first obvious difference. Biology can also be considered a human science if it deals with the study of the human anatomy. Human sciences are the study and understanding of the human mind or body, just about anything to do with humans as a species. Psychology, for example, isn't a natural science because it is the study of the human mind and how we behave. It is a human science.
What are the moral responsibilities of human scientists?
In psychology, there are certain rules that cannot be broken while setting up an experiment. Before any experiment, participants must sign a contract and the experiment should not bring physical or mental harm to the participants. The participants need to have a general understanding of what will be going on. With that as an example, human scientists should ensure the safety of the environment and those living with in it even for carrying out an experiment. No information should be withheld and data should be shared, unless it will fall into the wrong hands. This should be common practice.
Is there logic in scientific discovery?
Yes, of course. Science is logic for the most part, if something is discovered then by logic it exists and is a functioning part of our universe.
How might language used in polls influence conclusion?
Language is always used to influence people, the way sentences are structured with the right vocabulary may lead people on to make a decision that could affect their lives or others. If you take the 2016 presidential in mind, Donald Drumpf's hate speech was one of the many factors that lead people to vote for him because they actually believed him or they didn't think he would win based on what he had said. Many Drumpf voters believed that he would support them, however they are now suffering backlashes due to his administration going against them.
Can we reduce studies of human behavior to mathematical statistical analysis?
To a certain point, yes. Statistics is a key part in psychology in order to place someone within data. In psychology, each test has a score and that gets added to a collective data for a particular area, region or country. They organize those scores to see which percentile the participant is in and it gets compared to other scores.
Should human scientists know about the history of their subjects?
Of course history is important to any subject. It can allow inspiration, motivation and understanding of modern presentation. History in science is especially important because depending on how old something is, there is a way you can improve it with modern science.
How far do expectations influence observation?
Science requires that the observer must make a hypothesis before testing, with that in mind it means that testing will usually be done in order to see if the results are to what they expected, or hypothesized.
What do human sciences tell us about emotion?
Psychology tells us that human emotion is part of electrical system, our nerve system. They can be instant due to the neurons in our brain. A lot of our emotion is controlled by serotonin, dopamine or other chemicals found in the human brain. The lack or increase of these chemicals affect mental health greatly, for example the lack of serotonin means that you may have depression or anxiety.
In what way might beliefs influence human science?
Not particularly a human science example, but the Islamic Golden Age is a scientific example of how religion can influence science. Many discoveries of that period were done in the name of Islam and science coming together. However, to make a psychological link to religious beliefs, some may hold the belief that someone is depressed because they have been influenced by the devil or a demon of some sort.
